STCW stands for Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers.
It is an international convention established by the IMO (International Maritime Organization).
All seafarers must complete STCW-approved safety training before joining any merchant vessel, cruise ship, or offshore platform.
Basic Safety Training (BST) is mandatory for:
New candidates joining the merchant navy
Cruise ship crew members
Offshore oil & gas workers
Any person working onboard a commercial vessel
It is the first step to start a maritime career.
BST includes the following modules:
Personal Survival Techniques (PST)
Fire Prevention & Firefighting (FPFF)
Elementary First Aid (EFA)
Personal Safety & Social Responsibilities (PSSR)
Students must provide:
Valid passport copy
Citizenship certificate
Passport-size photographs
Medical fitness certificate
Educational qualification documents
